Sigh. I do fear that this is my last blog entry from Rome. I leave for Termini/Ciampino tomorrow morning at 7 am. The last week has been mostly sleepless! Our final critique was on Tuesday and my personal critique went much better than I was expecting. I have a really hard time verbalizing what I do and why I do it (…that’s why I make pictures…) but I must have done something...

This is the first of my two big projects for mixed media. It’s an altered book that I think I posted about earlier in the blog. I’ve made a bit of headway on it… even though I’m quickly running out of steam. I’m going to use this entry to prepare myself for our critique on Tuesday… so bear with me. I’m open to any thoughts or ideas or (constructive!)...

Yesterday was spent in Assisi with class. The train ride SUCKED. Every train I ride in Italy is different, and this was the worst one yet. It was uncomfortable and dirty and the temperature was inconsistent!! (It’s in italics because I am being flippant.) Oh and I was tired. So we get there, and it’s really pretty! Our intent was to go to St. Francis’ cathedral. I just learned...

It has been HOT here in Rome. All of last week was just miserable. I go to bed sweating, I wake up sweating. I want to sleep and eat all the time for some reason? That doesn’t really make sense but I guess it’s how it works. The air is usually around 95 but once you hit the black cobblestone the temperature goes up to a BILLION! My handy dashboard tells me that it’s only supposed...

Well, I don’t have a whole lot to report. Sadly, I don’t get much of a chance to explore with all this school work bogging me down. It’ll be worth it in the end though… maybe I’ll land a job because I spent a lot of money on a glorified vacation. Haha. Tuesday was my birthday. It started out on a stressful note. Deadlines, projects, blah blah. Everyone was feeling...

I think now is the perfect time to list all of the food I want to eat once I’m home. Here goes! 1. Mexican food. Chips & salsa, obviously. Potato chimichangas from El Aguila Real. Mushroom quesadillas from Monterrey. Mushroom quesadilla/potato burrito combo from El Charro. Bandit Burrito nachos with soyrizo, beans, green onions, rice, hot salsa, black olives and lime. Bean and...

Tuesday! Finally went inside the Pantheon. Little did I realize, it’s been converted into a church. I had this idea in my head that it would be preserved in its original state for some reason. Neat none the less. One of those places where you pop in and pop out because there ain’t much to it. Photos turn out pretty nice in there, though. Later that day it was our roommate...

Ugh, sick of updating already! Okay, Thursday as scribbled in sketchbook: “Woke up late, went around Venice with Brenda, Stephanie, Tonya and Melissa. Took boat to San Marco Square, saw big Chrudr? (no idea what I wrote) and pigeons. Ate Chinese food. Shopped in shops. Bought myself a much needed watch and a hilarious picture of a cat… And found myself a BIRTHDAY PRESENT HINT HINT ...

Okay time for Wednesday, July 1st. (This will be taken directly from what I scribbled hastily in my sketchbook so it won’t be any great literary work of… literature?) “Woke up too early, cabbed it to Termini. Trained it to Florence. Florence… Uffizi & Accademia. Uffizi = Caravaggio’s Medusa & Sacrifice of Issac!! (note: a fave of mine)Also saw...

Okay, I’ll be semi-considerate and split my week of posts up into days. Today is June 30th, and here are some things I took pictures of! This is a car that somebody adorable adorned in little lovey post-it notes! I got a little choked up when I saw it. Soooo sweet! Obligatory cat picture! This cat will be featured in my final painting, btw. My STILL VERY in progress crosshatching....

I had all my pictures from the past week organized and edited, but in one of my frequent moments of OCD I deleted the folder of pictures from my desktop (because I hate a cluttered desktop) AND I emptied my trash. I am SO SMART!!! I’m feeling the crunch this week. I WILL finish my crosshatch today, even if I am still only 60% done. And my painting by… sometime. I also have a book to...

Awesome week so far. Back in Florence for the night. Venice was amazing… so many museums that I need to go back and see. I will give a full update when I reach home… aka Rome!

I don’t have much to write about today. The girls have all been comparing bug bites. It’s pretty ridiculous. I am some sort of freak of nature and have absolutely no reaction to mosquito bites (woo!) but I do have gross red bumps all over my body. Nasty, but they don’t itch or anything. I suspect one to be a spider bite, ew ew ew ew ew. Other than that… had our last art...

Okay, now I have time to update. I’m not sure where I left off, so I’ll try to skim over my past week. Currently, I’m juggling my crosshatch drawing, a group panorama painting, my own personal painting, a 1000 word paper on the history of Caravaggio’s Judith and his Madonna de Palafrenieri (while trying to throw a little feminism in there too! You’ll understand why...

I feel like a boring jerk if I don’t include at least one photo with my entries. So here’s a picture I took today of a church we visited to see a Caravaggio painting. Getting to the church was a bit of a treat. I got left behind… again. Only this time I was at the apartment. Luckily Sarah Z. told me how to get there but I was still super frustrated. I made it to the church,...

Okay, so here’s a post with a billion pictures! I spent Friday and Saturday in Sorrento and Capri with Sarah and Darby. It was really fun! We took a train from Rome to Naples, then another train (kind of like the L in Chicago) from Naples to Sorrento. And Sorrento is sooooooo pretty! We stayed in a hotel that was a ways out from the city center, so getting anywhere was scary to say the...

I might as well write about my day while I wait for the shower to open up. I won’t forget to mention how I’ll be drying off from said shower with a pillow case, because our washing machine is on “Italian time” and takes about 5 years to go through it’s cycle and ends the second the sun goes down, leaving me with a soaking wet towel hanging out on the line in the...

On a more positive note, I’m looking forward to the following things: Going to Capri this weekend with Sarah and Darby. We have a hotel room with AIR CONDITIONING and TV and a POOL! And CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST!! Plus beaches!! I have a package from mom coming soon! Yay!

Okay, I need to vent!  Today marks the first day of me being irritated by almost everything around me. Most notably: Never being able to sleep at a reasonable hour. A. Too much stuff to do B. Too loud outside my window C. Gnats are still biting me D. I hate my pillow. :( People everywhere. Not in my apartment, that’s fine because I like having someone around to talk to, but the people...

Class went to the Vatican today, but unfortunately I only have four photos to show for it! First, there were way too many people to get any good shots of anything. Second, you always had to be moving because you were basically being herded along with hundreds of other people in a long, albeit pretty, path through the Vatican Museum and into the Sistine Chapel. Oh and lastly my camera’s...

I’m starting to feel like updating this is a chore, but I think it’s because I’m afraid of getting too boring. I don’t have much to say other than “I walked around a lot, here’s some things I saw!” But, I will do my best. Well, first off, it was Pride week(end?) in Rome. I learned this by finding this sweet flyer on the ground of the Capitoline...

Alright, I’m not making very good use of my time here in class so I guess I’ll do something “useful” like updating my blog! Yesterday was pretty eventful. Art history started at 9 and we were out and about by 9:30 or 9:45. By 10:15 I was feeling a little weird but I figured it was because I was locking my knees while listening to Terri talk, but after moving around I was...

I was going to write a blog but I think I’m just going to go to bed instead. So maybe tomorrow!

Okay, this post is long overdue so I will try to be as brief as possible! Saturday consisted of a lot of napping, so much so that when I woke up in the evening I was ready to do something exciting but nothing really happened until midnight when Sarah, Stephanie and I decided to find the nightlife that has been so elusive to all of us. Welp, we found it in our neighborhood, like literally blocks...

Happy Birthday, Derek!
Whew, long day today.  Yesterday… I went to class and came home and took a looooong nap, then I sat around for the rest of the night. Today I woke up early and walked around with a group of gals. We had big plans of buying our supplies from the art store but by the time we got there it was siesta time, so we THOUGHT H&M was a close enough jaunt but it turned out to be really far away....

I made my first sort-of meal today! Store bought potato gnocchi and some olive-tomato sauce. It’s really good, and was really cheap!
